The Hawkes Bay Racing Club is one of the oldest racing clubs in New Zealand with some of the races being held more than 150 years ago. The racing club is located at 300, Prospect Road in the heart of Hastings, New Zealand. It is close to Southland, Knight, Southampton and King Street.

About the Hawkes Bay Racing Club

The track has a large parking area with a provision for parking up to 1000 cars. The racecourse is centrally located in Hastings, and can be easily accessed. It is located on the way to the airport. The racing season starts in September and ends in July. Most of the race meetings are held on Saturday, with a few races on Wednesday, Sunday and New Year.

The Royston Hospital Hawke’s Bay Cup is one of the oldest Race days in New Zealand which was run more than 150 years ago and the race will be run over 2200 meters. The best thoroughbred horses in the country are run at this track. Tickets are priced at $30 for the members stand, and $10 for general admission. Like for other race days, the gates will open at 11 am and the races will begin at about 12.35 pm. Some days have free admission also.

The last race is usually scheduled at about 4.30 pm. There are a total of eight races scheduled for the day. The Horlicks lounge is open for all visitors, while the Sasanof lounge is open only for members.

A public lawn with picnic tables and umbrellas is available for all visitors to enjoy the races in the open There are screens in all the lounges to watch the live action, with bars, viewing platforms and a provision for TAB betting.

The Hawkes Bay Racing Club dress code for general admission is just tidy clothes.

Your kids are always welcome to visit the track and be entertained on the bouncy slide and in the playground.

Food Menu and Drinks Hawkes Bay Racing Club

Several options for a beer, RTD’s or wine are available at the track, the food and menus available on race days is mostly burgers, chips, sandwiches and simple eats. Some gourmet BBQ, lunch events, hospitality food and drink days are always happening at the club so check their site for info.

Functions n’ Parties at the Track

The racecourse at Hawkes Bay is also extremely popular in Hastings as a venue for holding functions. The racecourse has a total of 15 rooms with a capacity varying from 10 to 300 people each, for a total capacity of one thousand people. Some of the different kinds of functions which can be held at the club are business meetings, school functions, trade shows & expos, weddings, product launches, cocktail parties, dance parties, social gatherings, roadshows, team building activities, fund raising events, school balls. Lighting and audio visual equipment can be arranged as required.

The Champion lounge is the largest lounge and the other rooms to mention are the Cheval, Kelt, Karamu, Estella, Silks lounge, Exchange, Special Guest Lounge, Sasanof, Horlicks lounge, Bird cage and owners bar. These can be hired for both corporate and private events. All those attending any event organized at the club can avail of the complimentary car parking facility. Entertainment food and drinks can be arranged for the event as required with a disc jockey or professional bands. A public announcement system is also available for organizers.

For all the functions, a provision can be made for morning and evening tea. Additionally sandwiches and lunch can be provided. On request catering can be arranged for larger events with food provided to visitors in a buffet or plates.

The function rooms can be hired for personal events like birthday parties and anniversaries and corporate events. After the races special luncheons and meals are arranged with champagne and wine. In addition to providing delicious foods, these meals offer an excellent opportunity to network with other members and meet new people who are interested in racing.

Membership Options

Frequent visitors to the races can become members of Hawkes Bay and avail of the large number of facilities like free entry to the race meetings, updated information on the races, discounts on the passes to stands, and access to the members only lounge like Committee, Desert Gold and Sasanof. They will also get a two for one drink voucher and a voucher which makes them eligible for a free race book.

There are different categories of memberships like Full, Associate, Over 65’s and juniors membership for those under 18 with the annual fee for each category varying from $30 for juniors to $150 for full members including GST.
