Kensington Fun House (abbreviated as KFH) is a comedy club and live entertainment venue in Christchurch where comedians, poets and other artists can perform. It has a bar, eats and pokies gaming, it opened for business on December 21, 2017.

The venue is centrally located at 185, Manchester Street in the Central Business District (CBD) area of Christchurch, New Zealand. Latimer Square is the main landmark in the area. Barbadoes street, Gloucester street, Worcester street, Hereford street, Cashel street, Lichfield street, Tuam street, Bedford Row are some of the roads in the area.

Some local landmarks are Les Mills Christchurch, Canterbury Museum and BreakFree on Cashel.

About the Kensington Fun House 

The venue is open from 12 in the afternoon to 12 midnight, from Tuesday to Saturday. On Sunday, it closes earlier at 10 pm. The venue is usually closed on Mondays.

Many people are interested in becoming comedians and artists entertaining others. However they usually lack an audience who will give them feedback, so that they can fine tune their performance and gain confidence. To cater to the requirement of aspiring comedians and other artists, KFH is holding a free standup comedy night Tryout on every Tuesday.

Aspiring comedians can try out their jokes, material, concepts. Individuals who would like to become comedians, can use KFH as a venue to get started into success or fail terribly 🙂 They can share their ideas with other, exchange notes and perfect their act here. At KFH they have a forgiving audience who understands that they are new to the world of stand-up and they won’t be too hard on newbies.

There is an experienced Master of Ceremonies who is overseeing the Open Mic night and Tryouts at KFH on Tuesday. The best performers and comedians from the weekly tryout get an opportunity to perform at the Friday Free Standup Comedy showcase.

Additionally reputed local, national and international comedians are also performing at KFH to entertain the audience. Additionally there is an open mic poetry night on every second Wednesday. Established poets as well as those who have just written a few lines of poetry, can recite their poetry to entertain the audience. Others can attend the event and listen to poetry.

Musicians are also entertaining the audience at KFH with live music. All those attending the performances can enjoy the free WiFi facility to surf the internet. The venue is air-conditioned for greater comfort. For most of the performances entry is free for all.

Menu, Drinks and Eats of Note

Customers who are hungry can have burgers, chips, beer and coffee – what more could you want. Filter coffee is available from $3 onward, and free refills are offered sometimes. New Zealand beers and Tiger beer are available as tap beers. Sometimes special buckets are available with southern comfort lime, tequila and ginger beer. Free lollies are also offered at times for customers.

Most of the alcoholic beverages which are available like house spirits, bottled beer, cider, tap beers and wines are priced between $8 to $10 for a bottle or pint or glass. Cassels Milk Stout is priced at $12.5. The interior decor is eye catching, and seating comfortable for the audience.
