Bowling is one of the most popular recreational activities since people of all ages ranging from the young to granny can enjoy a game or two on the greens. One of the most reputed bowling clubs in Auckland is the Mount Albert Bowling Club which was founded in the year of 1897, so it’s way older than all of us 🙂 The club has heritage premises and lawns which are used for both recreational and sporting activities.
About The Mount Albert Bowling Club
The club is located at 10, Allendale Road in the leafy Mount Albert area, close to the Mount Albert railway station. The prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Arden is the MP from Mount Albert and is also the chief patron for the Bowling club.
The club is a grassroots bowling club with its own grounds. The team has won the Auckland Social bowls in which 30 teams participated. The team has also a number of representatives in the Auckland junior team.
Club Facilities of Note
The facilities in the club include two natural greens for bowling. It also has a dart board where members can enjoy a game of dart and a pool table. It also has a bar television and a kitchen for catering. All people including individuals who have not played a bowling game, can become a member of the club by contacting the membership in-charge. Even those who do not wish to bowl, can become a social member of the club. The club organizes some community events like quiz nights for members.
Opening Timings
The summer bowling season ranges from September to April every year. All are invited to join the club for a bowling game with their friend, partner, colleague or family. They can enjoy a game of bowling at the club in the afternoon in open air. Those who wish to join the club should drop in on Friday evening between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm to chat with the existing members of the club. The club is open on Monday to Friday between 8 am and 9 pm. On Saturday it is open earlier between 7 am and 9 pm while on Sunday it opens between 7 am and closes earlier at 7 pm.
Functions n’ Parties
Businesses can hire the club for functions and other offsite planning facilities. The club can host up to 60 people at a time. It has Wifi connectivity and catering facilities. The other facilities for hire include the bar, pool darts, BBQ, bowling. Smaller groups of up to twenty people can hiring only the bowling facilities at the club. They will be charged $15 per person with GST being charged separately. In addition to providing bowls to the group members for bowling, some basic training on the rules for bowling are also provided to the group members to help those who are not familiar with the rules.

Larger groups can hire the club for celebrations, parties and other functions. Some of the facilities include the club lounge, bowling area, catering facility and bar. The charges for renting the club are $550 for up to five hours with GST additional. For every additional hour, the charges are $50 per hour. At least two staff members will be required for a group of thirty and one more staff member will be required for a larger group. The charges for each staff member are $100 per person. The cleaning charges after the event is over is $50, and if the BBQ is used cleaning charges are $20. A deposit of $230 is required at the time of booking to secure the venue.
