The Northern Tavern claims to be one of the most popular local pubs in Invercargill and we think they are tellin’ the truth from our recent visit. The pub has awesome pokies gaming, great eats and is located at the corner of Sydney and St. Andrew Street in Invercargill in New Zealand. It is in Windsor area and close to Glengarry. Queens park, Waverly Park are in the vicinity of this tavern.

Some of the streets in the vicinity are short, banks, Chapman, Isabella, James, Ritchie, Mary, Margaret street. Queens drive is also nearby this venue. The Saucy Chef restaurant is adjacent to the pub and also a great place to grab a feed or drinks.

About the Northern Tavern Invercargill

The pub is open from 11 am in the morning to 11 pm on all days of the week. Car and street parking is available for customers. The pub is also a awesome sports bar, where customers can watch their favorite sports on the television screens which are mounted on the wall, while drinking beer with their friends. It has a TAB facility so that customers can place bets on their favorite team or player in comfy surroundings.

It is also a gaming lounge, with eighteen pokie machines. It has a well stocked bar, with a wide range of alcoholic and other drinks. It offers a wide range of beers on tap for beer lovers. Export 33, DB draught, Speights, Montieth’s are some of the beers which are available. Blueberry cruisers and cocktails like Froze are also available here.

Menu and Eats of Note

The menu at the restaurant consists of a wide range of seafood, chicken and other dishes. The seafood chowder consists of tasty seafood with garlic bread, priced at $13.90. Other seafood dishes are blue cod with fillet, lager, batter, crisp fries, salad garnish, battered southern blue whiting with blue cod, battered chip.

Meat dishes include chicken sandwich, BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato), sausages, bacon, egg, chips, pulled pork pasties an Asian dish, steak and chips, ham steak, smoked chicken and bacon fettuccine with pasta, parmesan cheese, and parsley.

The fisherman’s basket has crumbed calamari rings, crumbed mussels, fish bits, prawn twisters, crumbed prawns, fries, The land platter has crumbed chicken sticks, lamb bites, spring rolls, samosas, pork wontons, fries. The Mexican nachos have mince, bean mix, corn chips, grilled cheese, chili. Baked potato and salad has oven baked potato, with mince and cheese.

The Belly buster burger has a sour dough bun with butter, aioli, BBQ beef wing – this is one of the best burgers in Invercargill. Hot wings are deep fried chicken wings with sauce. Wedges can be served with sour cream or aioli. Other side dishes are fries, gravy, mushroom sauce, mushrooms, side of egg.

They also offer platters for groups, which are India, Asian, Fish or Land platters at a fixed price. There is a separate menu for kids and desserts which is available on request. Some of the new dishes are also listed on the board behind the bar. The food served here is delicious and available at a reasonable price.
