Origins of the club

The exact foundation story of Rangiora RSA is steeped in legend since documentation about its first years has been lost over the decades. However, it is a known fact that a meeting was held in Rangiora by the people on the 28th July 1919 to create a Returned Soldiers Association branch. The town’s mayor presided over the meeting and this was the first step towards creating the club.

Later on, the Association was incorporated on December 5th 1919 and became officially recognized. Membership grew in leaps and bounds such that by 1969, the association had 56 members from World War I and 282 members from World War II. A few years later in June 1972, the association was finally granted a charter which made it the Rangiora RSA club.

On 3rd April 1973, the club held its first Annual General Meeting. The years of 1975 and 1976 saw it incorporate many new activities. Examples of these are garden produce competitions, sports and organized visits around the Rangiora region and beyond.

Membership

You can join the Rangiora RSA club as long as you have reached adult age. Subscriptions to join run from the first of January to the 31st of December every year. Applications to join the club are made through the General Manager. Furthermore, on Thursday evenings at 6.00pm, the club holds a ‘Members Draw’. Aspiring members need to be present and financially invested so as to participate.
