About the Cav

While the exact time the hotel was built is not known, it is thought to have been established between 1864 & 1868. Initially, the hotel was known as the Suffolk hotel though this name was later changed to the Cavalier Tavern. Like most hotel in this era, it was built of wood which has surprisingly been able to hold up for 150 years.

In 1976 the hotel was taken over by Lion Breweries who established a mini-brewery that offered craft beer. Over the years the hotel has been leased and managed by different operators. In 2014 the hotel finally changed its name from the Cavaliers Tavern to its current name; The Cav.
