Origins of The Prospect of Howick

This dining and drinking spot in Howick Village started out as the Marine Hotel in 1906. Over the years, it survived many calamities such as a fire in 1925 and management changes as well. Due to its steadfast persistence and good quality service, the hotel survived through the 1940s and 1950s. In 1953, it was covered in the Howick Post newspaper and its popularity grew. In 1977, the name was changed from the Marine Hotel to the Prospect of Howick. In 2006, it was refurbished to fit in with modern times. Today, it provides a warm, welcoming, urban environment for its clientele while maintaining its history too.
