The Birkenhead Bowling Club has some of the finest natural greens for bowling in Auckland. About The Birkenhead Bowling Club

The bowling club was founded in 1943 and has become a popular recreational, social and sporting club in the North Shore area of Auckland. In 2009, membership of the club was also opened to women. The club has a large number of competitive players as its members and these players have won a large number of local, regional, national and international bowling championships.

Other types of members of the club are roll up, new and social bowlers. College students of the age 19 and above can also join. The membership fees depend on the kind of members, with full members paying $250 annually, while social members pay only $25.

Club Facilities of Note

In addition to the two natural bowling greens, the club has a large number of facilities for sports lovers. There is one big 86 inch HD big screen TV in the Sky sports lounge upstairs. It also has a big screen TV in the downstairs lounge and two 60 inch televisions for watching track-side one and track-side two.

Live coverage of horse races is also provided at the club, which also has TAB facilities for those who wish to place a few bets. There is a special lounge for pokies gaming machines with a linked Jackpot to keep you on the edge of your seats 🙂 Members can also enjoy a game of darts and play pool on the club tables.

There is a viewing deck where members can watch others playing bowling games. A fully equipped kitchen is available. The main bar area also has a lounge and a seating capacity of 120 people. The bar downstairs is smaller and has a seating capacity of 45 people. Full catering can be arranged for any function, since the commercial grade kitchen can be used for cooking food.

For members who enjoying playing a game of bowls for fun, and socializing with others, the club is organizing a social bowls competition. This competition is held from 6 pm onward for six evenings, every Monday. Teams of three or a single person can join the social bowls. Bowls and training in the bowls are provided.

At the end of the evening, prizes are distributed and members can enjoy an evening meal. The club is a member of Clubs New Zealand, and its members can enjoy the facilities of 300 other clubs in the country. For becoming a member of the bowling club, a person has to download and fill the form provided.
